In Granddaddy's picture collection, I came across some photo's of some Goose Creek Islanders spending the day at Boar Creek on a July 4th in the early 1960's. I asked Mom about this and she said that in years past, it was a tradition to go to Boar Creek for the July 4th holiday.
On the morning of July 4th, everyone would gather at their various boat docks, load their boat with coolers, food, chairs, towels, anything that would be needed for a day of fun. The lines would be throwed and folks would take ride to Boar Creek beach. The kids played in the water all day while the older folks enjoyed a day of fellowship and celebration.
Here are some pictures from a July 4th celebration at Boar Creek. Please feel free to share any stories and memories of this tradition. Wouldn't it be wonderful to revive the July 4th Boar Creek tradition again?
