Down
here they say "there's a right way, a wrong way and the Hobucken way"
and even though this is down in Lowland, it's definitely a good example
of the Hobucken way. Undaunted by the lack of a railway, the skipper of
this vessel (an old navy utility boat), has lifted the stern with a log
loader secured to the deck of a 50' barge, so he can re-weld a new keel
shoe that protects and supports the wheel and rudder. The
resourcefulness of folks down here is truly remarkable and likely the
result of spending so many years with nothing to work with but what was
at hand. "Making do" is an art form that is quickly being lost in an
increasingly disposable world, but fortunately is still thriving on
Goose Creek Island.
